Its fruit is a favorite for making rich, dark syrups, jams, and pies. Blue Elderberry (Sambucus cerulea) - 50 seeds: A Western native that grows into a large shrub or small tree. It produces beautiful berries covered in a silvery-white bloom, giving them a dusty blue appearance. It is more tolerant of drier conditions than other varieties. Red Elderberry (Sambucus racemosa) - 50 seeds: Distinguished by its cone-shaped flower clusters and brilliant red berries. Important: While beautiful and a favorite of birds, the raw berries of this species are toxic and should not be eaten.
