The exotic lacy blooms range from pink to white and blooms in early spring of the second season. Very easy to grow and very fancy to see. Greek botanist Theophrastus gave these flowers the genus name Dianthus which means "divine flower". To start the seeds indoors, sow them 6-8 weeks before the last frost of spring sowing just below the surface in flats and compress the soil. Keep the temperature at 60° until germination which should take place within 3 weeks. Thin or transplant the seedlings. Water seedlings until they become established. Once matured, they will be quite drought tolerant and will only need to be watered during exceptionally dry periods.
